What is direct to garment digital printing?

Direct to garment printing (DTG) is a textile printing process that uses specialized aqueous inkjet technology. DTG printers typically have a platen designed to hold the garment in a fixed position, and the printer inks are ejected or sprayed onto the textile by the print head. Essentially, DTG printing is a process of printing graphics on textiles and garments and, most notably for us, on t-shirts. Use modified inkjet technology to print any graphic you want on the shirt.

Think of it like a giant inkjet printer, but for shirts. Instead of printing boring thesis papers or brochures for your book club, our DTG machines print rugged dragons jumping through rings of burning unicorns or like, a cute bunny for your child's birthday. The better the dpi and resolution of the image, the higher the final result will be when printed on the shirt or garment.

Some DTG printers can print multiple shirts or other garments in a row, but a technician may need to remove the printed garment and replace it with a blank garment to continue the printing process. While pretreatment may not be necessary for all garments, this process is essential when applying white or light-colored ink to dark garments. When you finish printing, you'll need to cure the garment with a heat press or forced air dryer.
